General Info
In general, a lot of the more standard species of TF, are rather similar to wildlife from Europe, Asia, and in a few parts of TF other places on Earth. This includes species like deer, sheep/goat (and relatives), wild boar (and relatives), bears, small cats, weasel like animals, fish, frogs, and the list keeps going...
Anyway, only recently have I started going about with specific names and details for these species, and here I will keep all the info on them!

Nian Mountain Cat
Quick Facts
|
Generally accepted as the direct ancestor to most of TF's domestic cats, Nian Mountain cats are native to Northern Niana, some parts of Southern Niana, and some eastern parts of Capareon. A close cousin of the Capareon Forest Cat(also believed to be the ancestor to many domestic cat breeds), the mountain cat is solitary hunter of birds, rabbits, and even small deer. Although rarely witnessed, these cats will also turn to fishing in streams if times are tough.
These cats come in two patterns, and four colors for the most part. One pattern has more spots with stripes down the spine(shown), while the other has longer stripes with spotting on the face, paws, and belly. The four colors observed are Brown, Dark Brown(shown), Gray, and Silver. They tend to have white, or off white, muzzle, belly, paws, inner ears, and chest/neck/collar. They have tufts of fur on the ends of their ears, much like the lynx. They are also generally about the size of a lynx. They are built much like most small wild cats. In modern times, they are considered a threatened species, not quite endangered, but close enough that efforts were put in effect to halt their drop in numbers. The main reason for their threatened status was the fur trade, where the pelts of these cats was highly valued up until they were protected by law in Northern Niana and Capareon. In Southern Niana, there is little to no laws protecting any species, and so they remain unprotected and are still killed for their pelts there. They are most protected in the province of Nipari, where they are considered a symbol of the clan(a Nian Mountain Cat adorns their flag). The penalty for killing one there, or possessing their fur/remains was once death, long ago. Death may not be the penalty now, but a poacher would face serious fines and certainly time in prison in the modern day. |
